Kahr PM9
there have been several threads about concealable pistols on here i have advocated many times a Kahr PM9 and still do ...
several times i have said i have had zero issues with mine today i had my first issue...broke a slide spring today after approx 1500rnds ......i had read online several times that they need to be replaced after 1000rnds so mine did as expected....but i did want to report the first failure. I still advocate a PM9 for CCW ......my favorite carry weapon is still the Ruger sp101 357/38 |
Re: Kahr PM9
What are you doing putting that many rounds through that pistol?
It's not really meant to be a target gun. |
Re: Kahr PM9
I would definitely replace the spring every 1k rounds. You might even want to get a second replacement spring for your spare parts box. Bx3

but its not hard to do i try to shoot several times a week most of my shooting is done with other guns but since i carry the kahr i usually will put a box (50) through it i would like to follow up on the spring breaking....i cant see that it actually broke but the outer recoil spring expanded and slipped over the retainer rendering it unable to return to battery and expanding one end of the spring (i am going to turn the spring around and try it while i wait on the parts to get in) when the problem occured i was shooting double taps with it so i was working it very hard |
Re: Kahr PM9
If you contact Kahr, I would bet money they will send you a replacement spring for free. They have taken good care of me in the past. I just tell them that I love their products and try not to come off as a wanker.
On a side note, while I am a BIG FAN of DT ammo and carry it in my G29 (before I sold it), I don't know that I would shoot it through a Kahr. You are really beating up that little gun with that kind of bullet/slide velocity. Carrying with DT is one thing, practicing with it is another. Bx3 |
Re: Kahr PM9
Two words: H&K P7
Only pocket 9 I'd personally carry... all the rest seem to have problems of one kind or another. |

i will probably need to change barrels on my varmit rifle after 3-400rnds how many rounds through your HK? if shot enough it too will eventually have a failure as will any firearm point is everyones firearm is the best till it fails and they never fail if they arnt used. so if your HK hasnt failed yet you havent shot it enough |
Re: Kahr PM9
I have a Kahr Covert 40. It is an all stainless steel pistol. I have been carrying it almost every day for ten years. ZERO problems. Karh makes an excellent weapon. :ok:

Re: Kahr PM9
Spring broke on a .9mm after 1500 rounds?? What a piece of junk!
Seriously, what if you were using it for CCW and the thing broke when you most needed it.. I guess you could throw it at someone. This is why I shoot a GLOCK... Probably over 3000 rounds now, no issues at all. |
Re: Kahr PM9
Any firearm/machine can fail, even a Glock.

Re: Kahr PM9
yah...that is unacceptable.
I'd stick with something proven time and time again. Glock makes a solid piece, and nobody can knock that. I don't care if its idiotically compared to "tupperware". It works and is lightweight, so I can run if I have to. |
Re: Kahr PM9
There is not a single Glock model that can conceal like a Kahr PM9 for either a BUG or for dress up occasion requiring deep concealment. What do (did) I carry 24/7 for most occasions? A G29 (I also used to own a G27, the smallest Glock frame available). What do (did) I carry as a BUG or for dress up occasions? A PM9.
I don't know anyone here or anywhere else who will argue that a Kahr is as solid/reliable as a Glock. On the same note, it would be ridiculous and unrealistic to compare both guns when it comes to concealment. So for the sake of the argument, lets stop comparing apples to oranges. Bx3 |

The only malfunctions I've seen with my PM9 are after it's fired 150-200 rounds without cleaning. At that point, it starts failing to return to battery. A quick cleaning, and it's back to normal. I've done a few mods to my PM9 for comfort (see attached pic). I put Agrip (pressure sensitive adhesive backed suede-like material) on it, and ground down the slide release lever & rounded the back of the "beavertail". It's a nice little pistol. |
Re: Kahr PM9
I have turned the outside spring around and the pm9 is functioning perfectly again while i have another spring on order
It may be possible i put the spring on backwards last time i cleaned it..i wont know for sure untill i get the new spring and see if it is the same on both ends. if i can figure out how to take a good picture i will post ....be good to know if the outside spring can only install one direction |
